To evaluate the effect of pollutants such as pesticides or emerging contaminants in agricultural waters, continuous real-time monitoring of sensitive pointer animal species and their behavioral reactions is essential. As part of this project, the toxic potential of chemical mixtures is estimated in laboratory and mesocosm studies using the Multispecies Freshwater Biomonitor (MFB). The MFB can be used with numerous test organism species in various areas of application. Among other things, potential changes in the mechanisms of action of the mixture toxicity of crop protection products are examined in the laboratory under realistic sediment exposure scenarios for small bodies of water and compared with changes in the characteristic behavioral patterns of the test organisms. Furthermore, the effects of pesticide inputs on the activity and respiration of organisms are investigated using the MFB system in small water mesocosms.
