Overall objective of the project

In international grapevine collections about 5 to 10 % of the grapevine varieties are not true-to-type. Material transfer between grapevine collections lead to a proliferation of mistakes. Research work, breeding tasks, preservation of genetic resources and practical viticulture need reliable information on variety identity. It is aimed to establish a reference database for the 3000 accessions comprising the grapevine collection of the Institute for Grapevine Breeding Geilweilerhof. For all the accessions an identification profile will be made with descriptor data, SSR-marker data, pictures and herbarium material.
