Overall objective of the project

Within the frame of global climatic changes the resistance of new varieties to weather-induced stress has attained increasing attention mainly with regard to yield and quality. Low precipitation can have negative effects on must and wine quality. To preserve high must and wine quality under drought conditions methods to characterize and select drought-tolerant seedlings are developed. Since in some parts of German viticulture irrigation has become legal for the sector "quality wine" methodical questions concerning the variety-specific need to supply water have been raised.
