In order to establish the national reference laboratory in the fields of fruit crops and viticulture, test laboratories OWV (Virology), OWP (Phytoplasmology), OWB (Bacteriology) and OWE (Entomology) are set up and subsequently maintained at both sites of the institute OW Dossenheim and Siebeldingen. For accreditation of reference tests and diagnosis of quarantine pests, respectively, a quality management system is established at both OW sites. Responsibilities and tasks of the NRL comprise collaboration with Europeen reference laboratories (EURL) and plant protection agencies (PPA), participation in EURL-proficiency tests, organisation of proficiency tests for PPA, collection and verification of reference material. Accompanying research is necessary to establish test methods.
