Overall objective of the project

The revival of breeding in the genus Mentha is the beginning of modern, flexible and traceable breeding based on phenotypic, chemotypic and genotypic data in Germany. This development of high-performance and essential oil-rich varieties for pharmaceutical and food use is intended to stabilize and expand cultivation in the medium term, even under conditions of climate change. The use of novel and high-yielding aromatic varieties is intended to open up new markets and value chains. At the same time, agrobiodiversity will be expanded and crop rotations in domestic cultivation will be equalized under phytosanitary aspects while at the same time promoting beneficial insects.
