Overall objective of the project

PRoKlima closes a knowledge gap with regard to the reaction of half-dwarfs to different seed sizes in order to optimize rye production and reduce GHG emissions. In addition, PRoKlima leads to an acceleration of the development and provision of this completely new type of hybrid rye for agriculture, which is urgently needed with regard to climate protection. The central aim of the project is to derive recommendations for the optimal seed strength of half-dwarfs on the basis of extensive precision tests and to obtain information about the compensatory capacity of the genotypes. In addition, comprehensive GHG balances of the genotypes are calculated and the effects of breeding progress with regard to the reduction of the CO2 footprint and thus the progress made in terms of climate protection are assessed. By means of process-based plant growth modeling, the effects of climate change on future yield performance, resource use efficiency and the climate impact of different groups of genotypes can be investigated in countless virtual experiments.
