Overall objective of the project

The main objective of this SUPPORT project is to develop a transition approach that is based on a thorough understanding of decision-making of farmers that are acting in a socio-ecosystem containing barriers and opportunities. SUPPORT proposes an approach that will be applied and tested, providing a thorough understanding of barriers and disincentives that hinder the uptake of integrated and low-input pest management practices by farmers and growers and incentives that support the uptake of IPM practices. As a result strategies and policies will be recommended that support the uptake of IPM tools and technologies at different scale levels. Furthermore, the research will result in recommendations for farm-level strategies and policies that will aim to minimize pesticide use impact on the environment, biodiversity and human health, while further securing long-term competitiveness and economic performance of the European agriculture and enhancing social acceptance of crop protection in agriculture. The transition approach is flexible in nature to tailor it to different context situation. This will secure the contribution to EU policies as outlined in the SUD, the Green Deal objectives, and the CAP.
