Overall objective of the project

The aim of the project is to investigate genotype, environment and management interactions (GxExM) with regard to the factors of cultivar resistance, weed suppression, drought tolerance and yield of winter wheat (WW) and to evaluate preceding crop effects with regard to Septoria and Fusarium infestation. For a better estimation of site effects such as regional soil and climatic conditions on the influence of management measures, the trial will be conducted in parallel at the three trial field sites Braunschweig (Sickte), Quedlinburg and Groß Lüsewitz. The following conflicts of objectives or questions mentioned above will be addressed: A) Is it possible to reduce the weed population by adjusting the sowing time (early/late) without significant yield losses of WW? B) Do correlations exist between early and vigorous vegetative growth and risk for drought stress under prolonged drought? C) Are higher levels of resistance in WW cultivars also usable in subsequent crop WW to reduce fungal pathogen infestation (Fusarium, Septoria, DTR)?
