Overall objective of the project

As one of six legumes treated in the project, the aim of our cooperation is to boost the breeding of narrow leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius), white lupin (L. albus) and andean lupin (L. mutabilis). Our 4/40 goal stands for 4 t/ha save grain yield and 40% protein content at farmers´ production fields. The objectives are to: 1. build the innovation community, using three lupin species; 2. phenotype germplasm for undetected or pronounced agronomic target traits; 3. develop new germplasm and breeding tools; 4. introgress desired alleles in advanced breeding populations. The JKI primarily supports breeding by developing molecular markers and incorporating genetic resources of the narrow-leaved lupin. For this purpose, different biparental, segregating populations are developed and used for the genetic analysis of yield-relevant traits and marker development.
