Overall objective of the project

CiNURGi’s main objective is to encourage the creation and development of a circular economy for nutrient recycling (NR) in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR), with emphasis on enhancing current infrastructures and technologies to maximize NR from biomasses and resource streams coming from agriculture, municipalities, and industry. The development of a circular economy around NR in the BSR will decrease dependency on fossil fuel derived mineral fertilizers, helping to lead to climate neutral production of food, innovative and resilient societies desensitized to disruptions in the global supply chain, and reduced eutrophication in the Baltic Sea by more efficient use of nutrients. The structure of this project was developed to address the six objectives of the Baltic Sea Regional Nutrient Recycling strategy. In doing so, the aims and objectives also support the implementation of the updated Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) including specific actions directed towards agriculture and wastewater sectors.
