Overall objective of the project

Plant extracts of Macleaya cordata contain various alkaloids (sanguinarine, chelerythrine, protopine, allocryptopine) whose effectiveness against plant pathogens such as mildew on cucumbers has already been documented (Schuster 2015). Previously unknown effects of these extracts on the vitality and fecundity of various plant-parasitic nematodes (H. schachtii, M. incoginta and P. penetrans) could be observed from in-vitro tests. In particular, a chemotaxis-influencing, repellent effect of the extract on the nematodes is suspected. Due to further technical developments in the formulation of Macleaya cordata extract by Phytobiotics Futterzusatzstoffe GmbH, the concentrations of the extract that are sufficiently high for the soil environment can be provided as seed treatment.
