Overall objective of the project

Due to political and social demands for a reduction in using plant protection products and the ongoing development of herbicide resistance in important weeds, such as blackgrass and ryegrass, innovative methods for non-chemical weed control will become increasingly important in the future. On fields with high weed pressure, cutting off the weed seed heads in the crop or mechanically destroying the weed seeds during harvesting can reduce the input of weed seeds into the soil and thus achieve a long-term reduction in weed density. In a two-year field trial in Germany and the Czech Republic, the two methods TopCut collect and Seed Terminator are to be tested with regard to their effectiveness in reducing the introduction of grass weed seeds into the soil.
