Overall objective of the project

The project aims to develop a new effective and sensitive monitoring strategy, coupled with innovative diagnostics, based on the analysis of unsorted mass catches of plant-sucking insects. An Internet platform for the management, analysis and communication of monitoring data is to be developed and made available for the management and analysis of the data obtained in this way, as well as data collected in other ways. The project (VectoScreen project) combines and integrates three different fields of work: (i) Relevant taxa of plant-sucking insects in orchards and vineyards will be recorded, morphologically-taxonomically identified and molecular barcodes for species identification will be developed; (ii) The suitability of high-throughput sequencing (HTS) for the analysis of plant-sucker mass catches with regard to the identification of vectors and their associated pathogens and their detection in host plants will be tested; iii) An internet platform for the management, visualization and GIS-based analysis of monitoring data on QP and RNQP in fruit growing and viticulture is being developed for use by all institutions involved in monitoring.
