Small bodies of water in particular are often exposed to inputs of active substances from plant protection products (PPPs) and their degradation products, especially after rain events, if they are located in the catchment area of agricultural land. One of the aims of the National Action Plan for the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products (NAP) was to record this pollution on a representative basis. In the Pflanzenschutzmittel-Anwendungsdaten project, JKI and UFZ are working on a detailed analysis of the findings of pesticide inputs in surface waters at catchment area level. The project aims to gain insights into substance-specific exposure and risk drivers and management measures both through the analysis of application data alone and through analyses coupled with monitoring data. Information and recommendations for the authorization of PPPs and monitoring are to be developed. Examples for the future use of PPP application data will also be shown and possible advantages and limitations of the evaluations will be communicated.
