Overall objective of the project

AGROSOIL will use a living lab approach to co-create AEWM strategies that manage weeds and increase soil health to support the transition to more resilient crop production with less reliance on chemical inputs and intensive tillage. The project AGROSOIL will leverage the untapped potential of soil and plant microbiomes, integrating functional and ecological principles into practical AEWM strategies. The objective is to co-design AEWM, fostering a significant shift towards agroecology across Europe by 1) optimizing soil health through AEWM, 2) identifying soil-microbial communities and pathways that support AEWM, 3) developing holistic AEWM approaches that significantly reduce chemical inputs and tillage-intensity and bolster ecosystem services and beneficial biological interactions within cropping systems. The project intends to build and strengthen regional networks of stakeholders to promote the adoption of AEWM. Incorporating a LivingLab approach, AGROSOIL is set to transform cutting edge agro-ecological research into real-world practice. This is achieved by creating real-world experimental settings where farmers, researchers, and other stakeholders collaboratively co-develop, test and refine sustainable soil and weed management practices. In addition, communication, dissemination and stakeholder engagement are pivotal components of AGROSOIL, with a comprehensive strategy to maximize project impacts.
