The use of environmental chemicals such as pesticides poses a potential threat to wild vertebrates. The exposure of wild animals to environmental chemicals occurs mainly through their diet. By eating of exposed or contaminated food, persistent and bioaccumulating chemicals in particular are suspected of accumulating in animals at higher trophic levels. Accumulation occurs primarily in the liver. Liver samples from non-rodents are analyzed in the project. The liver samples come from a wildlife rescue center and are, for example, victims of strikes from wind turbines. Findings on the exposure of environmental chemicals listed in the NAP in non-rodents throughout Germany are expected from the investigations.
