Overall objective of the project

The aim of the project is to transfer a management process for plant genetic resources to barley that was originally developed for wheat. Organisational structures complementary to ex situ management are to be created. The obligation for this arises from Article 5 of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. The technical concept is based on the idea of the ‘renewable genetic resource’. A genetically diverseng population was established, which is cultivated at contrasting ecogeographical locations in Germany, where it genetically differentiates under site-specific selection pressure over a total period of 10 years. This project is developing a research infrastructure component for modern evolutionary research in crops.
