Overall objective of the project

The specific project objective and research activity of JKI-OW is the development of a molecular assay for the detection of D. bulgarica on infected plant material. In addition, the following project objectives will be addressed: - To carry out a thorough survey and mapping of the distribution of D. bulgarica in the EU. It would be possible to collect information on other Diplodia species occurring on diseased apple and pear trees with similar symptoms as D. bulgarica. - Development of an HTS-based analysis to study the mycobiome associated with D. bulgarica and its variation in plant tissues in relation to infection and disease development. - Investigation of the genetic diversity, phylogeny and evolution of D. bulgarica isolates in the EU. - Evaluation of the temperature effect on mycelial growth of D. bulgarica in vitro.
