Overall objective of the project

To investigate pesticide residues in bee matrices in Germany and Slovakia, comparisons will be conducted regarding the potential exposure of solitary bees and bumble bees to pesticides in urban and agricultural areas. For this purpose, comparable samples of pollen, nectar, and mud walls are being collected at several locations in Germany and Slovakia using a coordinated methodology. Subsequently, they will be analyzed for pesticide residues using a multi-method approach. This project will be the first to compare the exposure of various bee species to pesticides through different matrices. Furthermore, the diversity of cavity-nesting solitary bees will be compared between Germany and Slovakia. The data can be used to derive knowledge about the different agricultural practices as well as local exposure conditions as well as the differences in the diversity of cavity-nesting solitary bees.
