Overall objective of the project

Based on current scientific knowledge, there is very little information available on substances that can be effectively used as repellents against Japanese beetle grubs in products. The aim of this work package is the systematic selection of possible, suitable repellent active ingredients for controlling the invasive Japanese beetle, both in its larval form (grubs) and as adult beetles (TRL 1-4). In-depth research into existing repellent active ingredients will be carried out. The repellent active ingredients can be individual substances or components of mixtures or plants and fungi. Dual-choice and no-choice tests will be carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the identified repellents. These experiments aim to test the repellent effect on both grubs and adult beetles.Furthermore, a concept for a suitable product for tree nurseries should be developed. Further steps towards concrete product development can then be implemented in another project with a selected consortium.
