There are indications that non-EU fruit flies might become an even more serious threat for Europe due to the fact that for instance pest establishment is facilitated by climate change. In the past years, there were numerous further reports of interceptions or incursions as well as an outbreak of Bactrocera dorsalis under eradication in the EU territory. Harmonized EU measures[1] for specific Bactrocera species were also drawn up.This points to the fact that there is an urgent need to further improve detection and identification of the quarantine Tephritidae intercepted at EU borders or within its territory, and to collaborate with researchers from other regions worldwide to fill the data gaps identified. Intensive saisonal monitoring using traps in various regions in SW-Germany (commercial orchards, wild habitats, urban areas)(mainly Prunus and Malus sp.)Collection of infested fruits, ermerged larvae will be stored in ethanol for later molecular tests (in collaboration)PCR tests for identification of sampled individuals in order to validate sequences by comparing with morphological parameters (classical taxonomy)testing and further improvement of trapping systems for field monitoring purposescontinuous exchange with partners and international networks concerning field and laboratory methods and results
