A Field Trip to the wheat crop of tomorrow

A short film on resistance breeding at JKI and its contribution to reducing pesticides in cereal cultivation

On behalf of the European Research Alliance “Towards a Chemical Pesticide-free Agriculture”, the video journalist Pierre Girard visits agricultural research institutions all over Europe. On his Field Trip, he recently stopped at the Julius Kuehn Institute (JKI) in Quedlinburg to report on breeding research on cereals. Here he met with Dr. Holger Zetzsche, Dr. Gwendolin Wehner, Dr. Albrecht Serfling and Dr. Torsten Will from the JKI Institute of Resistance Research and Stress Tolerance.

His approx. ten-minute film can now be viewed on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4O2BGEyVLs  Topics include the search for disease-resistance in wheat, computer-assisted phenotyping and virus-transmitting insects.

Background:

The European Research Alliance "Towards a Chemical Pesticide-free Agriculture" was founded by the French Institut national de la recherche agronomique (INRAE) and the two German institutions Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and Julius Kühn Institut (JKI). Today, 34 research organizations from 20 European countries join forces and ensure scientific exchange across national borders and disciplines.
