J-TEAM is top performing team at worldwide DREAM-CHALLENGE competition ENCODE-DREAM

J-TEAM is Jens Keilwagen from JKI, Stefan Posch and Jan Grau from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg

Final results announcement: German J-TEAM was successful in final round of DREAM-CHALLENGE competition ENCODE-DREAM.

The "ENCODE-DREAM in vivo Transcription Factor Binding Site Prediction Challenge" is a collaborative, crowdsourced effort to identify the best performing algorithm for predicting positional in vivo TF binding sites. The Challenge presented several large sequencing-based datasets to the research community, and international teams worked to predict TF binding sites. Teams submitted their predictions and the Challenge organizing team assessed method performance to produce an unbiased benchmarking of the models.

In total, 40 independent, international teams participated in the Challenge and four teams were named the top-performers. J-TEAM, from Germany, and Yuanfang Guan, PhD, from USA, tied for the top performing team.

Cell, a leading journal in biology and biomedicine, is partnering with the DREAM Challenges to support the submission of an overview paper describing the "ENCODE-DREAM in vivo Transcription Factor Binding Site Prediction Challenge" and broadly applicable insights that emerge from it. Publication in Cell will be contingent on a standard evaluation process including editorial assessment and peer review. Top performers in the challenge will be invited to give a presentation at the RECOMB/ISCB Regulatory and Systems Genomics/DREAM Conference with travel support.
