On 17 September 2026, colleagues from the Horticulture department of the Dienstleistungszentrum Ländlicher Raum (DLR) Rheinpfalz in Neustadt an der Weinstraße visited Dossenheim to learn more about the work of the institutes BI and OW. Following an overview of the tasks of the JKI and the institutes, given by Prof. Dr Johannes Jehle, researchers from various departments presented their research activities related to horticulture. Particular interest and numerous opportunities for future collaboration arose around topics including the biological control of pests in legumes, the spotted-wing drosophila and its natural antagonists, insect pathology and next-generation sequencing (NGS), viral diseases in fruit crops, MALDI-TOF analysis of bacterial diseases, and the chemical and biological analysis of volatile compounds.
