In the year 2025, Annette Herz (JKI BI), Danilo Lüdke (JKI BI) und Matthias Riedel identified a parasitic wasp (Figure 1) that attacks box tree moth caterpillars in the boxwood forest near Grenzach-Whylen, close to the Swiss border. Molecular and morphological data indicate that these parasitoids belong to an undescribed species of the genus Eriborus sp., which has so far only been found in Korea and, since 2024, also in Basel and the surrounding area (Kenis et al. (2025): doi.org/10.1079/ab.2025.0081). It is a larval parasitoid that, after leaving the host, forms a typical cocoon (Figure 2) after emerging from the host larva. We will continue to monitor the spread of this species in Germany and can already report a first record from Freiburg (Old Cemetery) on March 20, 2026. We also welcome reports from the public regarding potential findings!
