Project EUCLEG – Breeding forage and grain legumes to increase EU and China's protein self-sufficiency

The strategic goal of EUCLEG is to reduce Europe and China’s dependency on protein imports by developing efficient breeding strategies for the legume crops of a major economic importance in human food and animal feed. The objective is to improve diversification of crops, crop productivity, yield stability and protein quality of both forage (alfalfa and red clover) and grain (pea, faba bean and soybean) legumes. 37 partners are involved in the EUCLEG project, 11 of them from China. The JKI-Institute for Resistance Breeding and Stress Tolerance is involved in two of seven work packages (WP): WP 3 and WP 4. The project is coordinates by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique – INRA. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Programme for Research & Innovation under grant agreement n°727312.
