As intensive agricultural use plays a major role in insect mortality, in the joint project FInAL (Facilitating Insects in Agricultural Landscapes) possibilities for promoting and supporting insects are being tested and evaluated. In so-called landscape laboratories, measures are developed in cooperation with farmers in three model regions in Germany with the aim of promoting local insect populations. The implementation of the measures is accompanied and evaluated by the scientific staff from various institutes. The Institute for BiologicalControl of JKI is investigating hoverflies, which function as pest regulators and as pollinators in intact ecosystems.
