One of our research goals is the analysis of heritable traits of plant genetic resources and their sustainable conservation and utilization. Based on analysis at the DNA level we gather information on genetic diversity of plant populations and develop strategies for their management in our agroecosystems. This includes the in situ conservation of plant populations, namely the protection of genetic diversity in their primal habitat.

In order to share our results for maintaining and utilization of plant genetic resources we develop databases and information systems on national, European and global level.
