The Institute for Application Techniques in Plant Protection offers different kinds of voluntary testing on a varying scale. Successfully tested plant protection equipment is registered in the descriptive list. This equipment complies with the compulsory guidelines of Article 16 of the German plant protection act. Furthermore the institute is testing seed drills as well as seed coating facilities. The national inspection of plant protection equipment in use is coordinated by the Institute as well.
The statutory mandate of the JKI is the registration of successfully tested plant protection equipment according to § 52 (2) German plant protection act in the descriptive list. The descriptive list consists of 6 sections with different testing methods:
Section "Survey of documents": model of equipment tested in the context of the survey of documents or equipment which has been announced to the JKI until the 14 December 2014.
Section "Visual inspection": model of equipment tested in the context of the technical inspection.
Section ENTAM: Plant protection equipment and parts are tested by the Institute according to the guidelines of ENTAM.
Section "Approved plant protection equipment": Plant protection equipment and parts are tested by the Institute according to the approval procedure.
Section "Register of loss reducing equipment-drift reduction": Plant protection equipment and parts with drift reducing qualities successfully tested by the JKI. Use ordinances of many plant protection products refer to these drift reducing characteristics.
Section "Register of loss reducing equipment-reduction of plant protection product": Model of plant protection equipment which are proofed to save plant protection products in different crops and growing stages.
Lists of seed coating facilities and seed drills
Another statutory mandate of the JKI is the listing of successfully tested seed coating facilities and seed drills. The Institute maintains
the list of seed treating facilities with quality assurance systems for dust reduction and
the list of drift-reducing seed drills and maize seed drills
National Inspection of Plant Protection Equipment in Use
The Institute is in charge of the coordination of the national inspection of plant protection equipment in use. Together with the experts of the federal states, uniform regulations and standards are determined. The inspections are conducted by the federal states in officially approved inspection workshops.
