IT service

The use of IT in the JKI is based on a powerful IT infrastructure. This includes the network infrastructure with internet-connectivity, computers, mobile devices as well as central storage  and computing capacities. To ensure an optimal use of IT the Data Processing Department (DP) operates an extensive support.

IT infrastructure in the JKI:

  • about 1,500 clients
  • virtualization cluster
  • about 120 servers
  • local area networks at all sites
  • a central internet gateway and a demilitarized zone for own internet services
  • wide area network to connect all sites

Based on this infrastructure a lot of IT services are performed:

  • IT security infrastructure
  • storage and backup systems
  • groupware
  • database management systems
  • video conference systems
  • document and process management systems
  • LIMS (labor information and management system)

To ensure a high-quality support at all sites,  local support teams have been established. The following figure illustrates the structure. The department is in charge of IT skills training for staff as well. For this purpose, the DP has introduced an in-house training programme. This course series is complemented by comprehensive self-study material provided via Intranet.
