Climate change adaptation

It is immensely important to adapt the cultivation of our crops to changing climatic conditions in order to ensure food security of humans and animals in the future. Therefore, the Institute's research is aimed to develop new agronomic cropping strategies and adapt the spectrum of agricultural crops to the changing weather conditions. Another area of research deals with how crop production does affect the agro-ecosystems under changing climatic conditions.

The research approaches, inter alia, include the development of sustainable crop production strategies under changing climate conditions. For the collection of data, cropping systems are tested in field experiments and in addition mathematical models are performed for forecasting crop yields. This allows the simulation of various scenarios in order to best adjust the agricultural field management to changing climate conditions such as extreme weather and climatic events. Another focus is on sensitivity analysis about the influence of meteorological quantities on plant growth during different phases of the vegetation.
