The library of the Julius Kühn Institute is a specialized research library. We cater for the information needs of the JKI scientific staff and hold collections in our core areas of research, which include:

• plant pathology, plant protection, plant health, plant breeding, plant cultivation, plant nutrition, soil sciences, plant genetics, mycology, nematology, entomology, and associated sciences.

We provide access to a vast spectrum of resources:

• collection of approx. 370,000 monographs and printed journal volumes from all different fields of plant research
• electronic access to the contents of more than 7,000 scientific periodicals and more than 9,000 e-books 
• retrieval of full text articles either from our own stocks or through interlibrary loan
• carrying out comprehensive subject–matter search
• access to different commercial literature databases

What we cannot deliver immediately is obtained through interlibrary loan or collaboration with other libraries affiliated to the BMEL.

Our collections, which include some rare and outstanding stocks, are listed in the Common Library Network, what makes them directly accessible to the interested public or other libraries.

To get the best matches for requested literature more easily, we use a discovery system that allows for simultaneous search in all relevant databases and catalogues. Having found what the user is looking for, the document management technology doctor-doc is the last step in the workflow to deliver the documents quickly.

Beyond the supply of literature, we deliver services to enhance scientist’s experience with reference management software (Endnote and Citavo) or with literature databases. And we provide consultations concerning all issues of publishing, open access and copyright.
