Presentation of German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, JKI as coexhibitor
The Julius-Kuehn-Institute (JKI) is the German research institution for cultivated plants and a higher Federal authority. We are predestined by this double role to address topics in the fields where politics, research and practical applications intersect. We advise the German government in terms of applied basic science in combination with practical experience or research findings. In this way we arrive at innovative, sustainable solutions for tomorrow’s crop producers also in the field of eco-farming. Hence we participate regularly in the Biofach fair as coexhibitor of the German Ministry for Food and Agriculture. In 2020 you will find our booth in Hall 9-351.
It is our task to supply data based on sound science that will help other authorities and those with political responsibility to make their decisions and, to make such data available to all. Our researchers work on long-term research projects e.g. to help breed improved crop plants or studying agricultural eco-systems, but they are always ready to react ad hoc to new problems and issues that suddenly become relevant. Examples for long-term studies are plant pathogen diagnostics, long-term field-trials to reduce pesticides and the search for new methods of biological pest control. More immediate problems are investigated such as copper reduction in eco-farming, resistance management or fighting invasive species. We are a major centre of agricultural research and function as the interface between the EU and Germany, Federal and state governments and between academia and practice.
“Quo vadis biological control? Differentiating between biostimulants, antagonists, strengtheners and efficient ingredients“, this JKI session in the frame of the Biofach Congress will take place on February 14th from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.; Room Riga (NCC Ost), Forum Science.
